"Meet One Death"

Today we’d like to introduce you to OneDeath. Them and their team share their story with us below:

One Death originally began in Corpus Christi known then as “Vena Cava” a Power Metal outfit bringing their love for traditional Heavy/Power Metal Music to their hometown, in vain of groups such as Helloween, Stratovarius, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc.

The group disbanded from the original formation of Vena Cava when lead singer/Guitarist Carlos Cereceres relocated to San Antonio with the intention of planting his Metal flag in the ground and forming what is now known as One Death. Befriending Mauro Murillo, a local artist/Guitarist he was recruited into the band.

After a flurry of drummers, the duo became a trio adding Matt Castañeda who was a founding member of Vena Cava and completed the new formation and vision of One Death. Now working with a series of bassists, hired guns, etc. we can be found playing all around Texas in hopes to expand our range to the rest of the States.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have unfortunately struggled with finding a manager who is able to place us in the right light in the Metal Scene at this point in time and support our vision.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With One Death our aim has always been to bring our brand of Metal to as many people who will listen!

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Unfortunately, the pandemic did affect our scheduled shows, but we took advantage of the time and regrouped as a band to write new music and work together.

We were able to take all precautions and still get gigs around Texas and persevered to play in neighboring cities. - Voyage San Antonio

One Death, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Carlos Cereceres- Vocalist/Rhythm Lead guitar – I grew up in the music industry always with my father setting up gigs and watching him perform and Record. I started learning guitar at an early age folowing my father’s footsteps. I began joining and forming bands as early middle school and even through high school in various styles. I then went perfecting my vocals in college and I haven’t stopped since.

Matt Castañeda- Drums-

I started music playing when I was in middle school in band all the way to college, and have continued my music journey till now

Mauro Murillo- Rhythm Lead guitar/ Backing Vocal-

I enjoyed playing in Mariachi during middle school. After high school I played music with friends then began to play music with professional musicians somewhere in my early 20’s

And still to this day.

The three of us we’re very lucky to have found eachother on our musical journeys as the three of us we’re huge fans of Power Metal, Traditional Metal acts such as Helloween,Yngwie Malmsteen, Stratovarius to name a few, have had a mutual desire to have our very own band in vain of what we love to keep the flame alive as the scene is flooded with cover bands, radio rock groups and of course the many, many

Death Metal, Hard Core, Nu Metal and Punk Bands.

We feel we bring a sense of nostalgia to some listeners and show some of the upcoming generations, things they may have never heard before as we get that comment all the time.

We really love to hear people say how they never expected us to rock “that” hard, and thats what we think sets us apart from most of the bands we battle it out with on stage as it’s not uncommon for us to play past our set time because the crowd always yells for an encore.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Well for this we can say a lot. But most of the answer is people tend to forget that local artist/bands or what have you, need the support first of our local scene (which ever that is)

Passerbyers forget that all the greats that are in all our playlist on Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora all started from somewhere. We all know people used to watch Van Halen, Wasp etc…they would duke it out at small clubs until the the labels started to notice the crowds they were drawing in.

Many bands have that story, but for a lot of artists like us, it is true.

Those ways of yester-year can still work and still does for some areas, but we think artist should still be performing where you can, showing your talents today regardless of the social media monsters that now dictate who’s great and who’s not. A lot of the online artist as we all know are not the same as a gigging musician struggling to break into a scene, they do it from passion in their bedroom and never set foot on a stage. In real life, you cannot disable the comments section, people will let you know if they enjoy your style, that’s also much needed in all facets of the arts.

So bottom line, if you enjoy music, go out and support a band playing and putting themselves out there. Supporting them by buying a shirt a sticker, patch whatever they have that you can afford to let them know they were heard and enjoyed watching them perform. It doesn’t hurt to give them a like/follow and share their arts on social media.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal of One Death is to eventually sign with a reliable viable label. We know is a gamble regardless, but offers we’ve had seem to be sub par and almost predatory in the fine print even recently in 2023. We’d like to get on some worthwhile nationwide tours and connect with new fans everywhere we go. Hopefully we can achieve that with our upcominh release that’s in the works. Optimistically make an impression and a bigger name for ourselves, but at the end of they day, we’d be happy with the fact that someone enjoyed our music and bang their head. - Canvas rebel
