"EP REVIEW: DAZR – DAZR"

When you consider that to the casual listener 80’s style hard rock (however you want to categorize that) was largely born here in the states it’s a bit sad that it’s become kind of a lost art here. There aren’t a lot of great new bands in the genre here these days, A point Crazy Lixx wrote an entire song about.

Dazr is from South Carolina and going off of what Spotify has listed this self titled ep came out just last month and it is surprising levels of good. No, Scratch that..Great!

“Unsatisfied” kicks things off beginning with a 70’s rock riff forming the Skelton of the song but is given some meat with a heavier modern edge. The rhythm section is tight and really drives this song, the guitars groove and wail, and the vocals hit the mark staying in a lower register in the verses but really hitting those highs at the chorus with the right amount of punch.

“Night Lady” follows things up nicely, Beginning with a mellow 80’s melody before kicking you right in the teeth, This song falls somewhere musically between Guns N’ Roses and Skid Row. As great as the first track was this definitely exceeds it, The incendiary guitar solo provided by guitarist Grant is a stand out in an absolutely kick ass track.

One of the biggest staples of 80’s style hard rock that helped propel it to heights not seen since the early 90’s thanks to MTV was the power ballad, Something that for all the great bands as there are carrying the torch out there for this style of rock music is still very much lacking. This is THE song that instantly sold me on this band and “Can’t Take It Anymore” is the real deal, This is vintage late 80’s/ early 90’s power ballad wizardry.

Beautiful acoustic picking plays during the verses as singer Austin soulfully sings with a sense of longing and when that chorus hits it hits you right in the chest, His voice is incredible and his ability to convey the emotion he’s singing about is really quite impressive, The band is firing on all cylinders on this track. The guitar solo hits the mark doing what a great solo should do, bring the emotion in the technique. Honestly, we need more new power ballads, hats off to the band for this song.

“Tough” straddles a fine line between 70’s and 80’s hard rock with more of a lean into the latter stylistically, it’s got a great groove to it to get you moving.

“Hold The Line” starts out with a riff not far off of early Motley Crue, This reminds me a bit of that band meets Skid Row and Pretty Wild, Just a really street level rocker with some serious power and a lot of guitar pyrotechnics. I imagine this one goes over really well live.

It’s not often you come across a new band who is self releasing their first EP and have it sounding this good, Easily in the top best new releases I’ve heard so far this year. - The Rockpit Australia

"DAZR"

Do you remember the time when hard rock dominated the whole planet and America was leading the way? We’re talking about the glory years of the 80’s when MTV monopolized the interest of the TV audience, supermarkets loaded their shelves with plenty of hairspray and bands released gold and platinum records! The…sonic compass pointed almost permanently to the West and the other side of the Atlantic thus we couldn’t be happier. Many years have passed since then and USA has not only lost the reigns of hard rock music but seems to have turned its back on the genre altogether. So imagine my surprise when I “stumbled” upon these kids, DAZR! Without exaggeration, we are talking about the best thing to come out of America in many, many years! And it’s not just the songs…it’s the right attitude that we miss from the vast majority of the bands nowadays.

So, what do we find on the DAZR EP? The ideal mixture of late 80s with a dose of 70s aesthetics, especially in terms of the structure of the compositions. Imagine Skid Row and Steelheart meeting Zeppelin in an explosive mix with an excellent production and a flawless performance. The up-tempo tracks bring out the “in your face” and “take no prisoners” attitude of the hair metal movement while the undeniable highlight is the incredible power ballad “Can’t Take It Anymore” that brings to mind the hard rock masterpieces of the late 80s!

In an era where everything is detrimental, DAZR attempts something that seems (and probably is) impossible in this day and age: to remind all of America how hard rock should be played, with an uncompromising attitude and a proper songwriting. Press play on the video link below and mark our words: DAZR is a brilliant band and its goal is crystal clear: make hard rock music great again! - Rockpages Greece

"Meet DAZR"

We recently connected with DÅZR and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, DÅZR thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.

As with a lot of things in life, you have to take risks to pursue music professionally. There’s no guarantee of success in the music industry but this is our passion and what we want to do professionally. We devote all of our time to this. If we are not performing, we are rehearsing, practicing, writing, recording, or networking.

This all-consuming dedication is not just about chasing fame or fortune; it’s about the love for the craft and the desire to connect with people through our music. The music industry is known for its unpredictability and simply pursuing music full time is taking a risk in itself. We absolutely have had obstacles in the past, especially in the beginning. However, our passion fueled our determination to overcome those obstacles and prove that pursuing one’s dreams, no matter how unconventional, is worth the risk. Taking the risk of pursuing music full time has allowed us to immerse ourselves in the art we love, connect with audiences on a profound level, and build a community that shares in our passion. The journey is ongoing and we know there will always be risks and obstacles we may face in the future, but we embrace them with open arms knowing that each step forward is a testament to our unwavering commitment to the power of music.

DÅZR, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We are DÅZR. We are a hard rock band. We have all been playing music since we were kids and developed a strong passion for it leading us to want to pursue music professionally. We play shows around the country with sets of our original music as well as songs that we enjoy playing. We are high energy and put on a performance the audience will never forget. What sets us apart from others is that we are authentic and write and perform music that we like, not necessarily what’s trending or what everyone else is writing and playing. We always have fun on stage and it shows through our performance. A lot of the younger generation, including young adults our age, haven’t really ever listened to the type of music we play but it doesn’t take long for them to rock out with us and fall in love with our genre and original music. We are most proud of the great headway we’ve made in a short time frame. We are at a point already that a lot of artists/bands take a little longer to reach. We are also proud of our original music that will be released soon. We’ve gotten really great feedback on our songs. Definitely stay tuned for the release of our originals. Be sure to follow us on social media because we’ll be posting updates and announcing the releases there. We really want our fans and followers to know how much we genuinely enjoy putting on a great show for them every time we play. We have such a good time on stage and we love getting to share our passion with our audiences.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

We all have a passion for music and this is what we want to do for a living. We are all very dedicated and have made sacrifices to be able to do this professionally. We want to sell out stadiums and write and release our own music. That’s what’s driving us. We can’t imagine doing anything else.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?

What we do is a lot harder than what most people think. It’s not just all fun and partying like a lot of people think it is. It takes a lot of dedication, hours upon hours of practicing and rehearsing, and lots of sacrifices to take it to the level we want to reach. It’s a lot more complex than most think. - Canvas Rebel
