"The GET - Get This (self-released)"

Even before you get to the music, there is so much in how The GET makes music that speaks volumes about the modern musical age. There was a time when music was all about guys, and it was mainly guys, with guitars. And then it became more about technology, especially in the pop environs, as synthesizers gave way to samples and studio-made sounds. All of this was a world away from the music halls where orchestral music was found and the back rooms where folk musicians were hosted. Well, bands such as The GET, and especially their new single, “Get This,” show us exactly how much those old demarcations and divides have been pulled down and how much those once separate sonic worlds have grown to love each other.

Combining some gentle electric guitar, sweeping cello, deft and delicate keyboards, plus all manner of understated beats and exotic sonics, “Get This” is the sound of music making at the cutting edge. It combines the worlds of rock and roots, pop and post-punk, as well as that of the classical, into a slice of folktronic-world music gorgeousness. Add to that George Elizondo’s warm and welcoming vocals, and you will have a glorious song.

It is a song that ebbs and flows in gentle sonic waves, sometimes building up to more driven sounds but generally happy to drift and float between folk integrity and digital delicacy, classical grace, and the mereest hint of pop groove.

If a single’s job is to raise awareness for an album to follow, then “Get This” has done its job admirably. I can’t imagine there are many discerning music fans who will listen to this and not make a mental note to check out the full-length collection to follow. If there are, then perhaps music is not for them after all. - The Big Take Over

"Fresh Finds -The GET – Get This"

The GET’s new single, “Get This” is a beautiful and captivating experience from start to finish. This New Orleans-based electro-folk trio really knows how to create something special. The song’s sound is both fresh and familiar. The trio, led by singer-songwriter George Elizondo has crafted a song that feels like a smooth ride through different musical landscapes.

From the moment the song begins, you’re pulled in by the rich and warm vocals that immediately feel comforting. George’s voice has this incredible ability to sound both relaxed and powerful at the same time, making each word feel meaningful. The melody is peaceful, wrapping you up in its calm vibe while the production is creative and professional, giving the song a polished yet raw feel. Every instrument shines on its own but also meshes perfectly with the others. The guitar, cello, and electronic elements blend in such a way that it feels like they’re having a conversation with each other.

The rhythm of the song is amazing and keeps you hooked from beginning to end. The recording quality is great with each sound crisp and clear, showing how much care was put into the engineering and mixing. Speaking of which, the audio was expertly engineered by John Maestas who also mixed the track alongside Violeta Del Rio. The result is a soundscape that feels open and airy, letting each part of the song breathe.

Everything from the vocals to the instruments to the overall vibe feels just right. It’s rare to find a song where every element comes together so perfectly and “Get This” does exactly that. We’re excited to see what The GET has in store for their next releases. If this is any indication, we’re in for something amazing! - Bored City
